STARLINE - The Beach Boys on 45

The Netherlands

Reissues on Capitol label

└─  Back to main The Netherlands page

Throughout the 70ies, 80ies, and early 90ies Capitol released several reissue singles of the Beach Boys. Exact dates - mostly the early ones - aren't known, although one could do a good estimation comparing the catalogue numbers with those of the regular releases from that same time frame.

Another problem is determing whether or not it's a Dutch release. In the late 80ies the labels often mention it's a E.E.C. release. Label or cover often additionally give an indication it's a German or even a French release. There are a few certainties:

A. If the label has the word STEMRA stamped on it, the disk is from Holland.  This holds true even if the "virgin" vinyl around the label is stamped "Made in Germany", because although the vinyl itself may have come from Germany, the recording was pressed in Holland and sold in that market.

B. If the word STEMRA BIEM is stamped on the label, the disk has been pressed in Holland, but sold in the French Market.  With major hits, the French presses were not able to keep up with the demand, so Dutch pressing factories would make copies of the record and ship them to France to be sold.

C. The label may have the word GEMA STEMRA stamped on it.  This signifies that the record has been pressed by one of the countries from the European Economic Community, ie Holland, Belgium or Germany.  There is no definite way to tell which country pressed the record unless there are obvious clues (such as "Made in...").
