STARLINE - The Beach Boys on 45

South Africa

As always, early 70ies singles from the Beach Boys on South African vinyl are hard to find. Like in the U.S.A, saleswise their popularity was waning. What probably also didn't help was the fact that the South African government decided to boycot the Beach Boys to perform in this country, because of the simple fact that two not-so-white South Africans had joined the group...

Be sure to notice that the South Africans also released the Sail On Sailor single twice (as happened in the U.S.).

R21-177: You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone / Cuddle Up

- call it a promo, or a cheap way to promote this single, but it's a unique little addition to this single anyway. A hand-typed info sheet cleverly linking the group to The South African group The Flames. The Dutch charting info is totally incorrect btw (it climbed no higher than #31 in the Dutch Top 40)
